Managing Director,
Angela Belle McSweeney enjoys a high profile throughout Australia,
which began as a St. Catherine's schoolgirl, through modelling and
acting assignments.
In Angela's earlier years, she had many roles in various
television soapies and was one of the younger members on Clive Robertson's
"Beauty & the Beast" program.
Whilst a resident teacher with the famous June-Dally
Watkins Business and Finishing school, Angela took fashion shows
overseas and innovated a men's course, the first in Australia.
As a fourth generation member of one of Australia's
most prominent racing families it seemed only natural that Angela
would be honored with the accolade of The Racehorse Owner's Association,
Racing Personality of the Year. However, this title is not
easily gained, it is awarded to the single person making the greatest
contribution to racing in the year. Angela has contributed
three million dollars worth of sponsorship and prizes to the sport
through associated events, and was the first woman to have been
awarded the title. Predecessors to this title were Mr. John
Schreck, OAM and Mr. Ross Cribb, OBE.
Throughout her life, Angela has given her expertise, time and support to charities. She is a member and the
Publicity Officer of the Black and White Committee, Chairperson of the Vienna Opera Award and is one of only five Ambassadors for the Make A Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. The
Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association-Smile For Life and the Queensland Giraffes (people who stick their necks out for others) are other charitable arenas where Miss McSweeney has contributed in a major
manner.
Yet another arena Angela is strongly involved with is
the press. Having partaken in on-camera television coverage
with stars such as Ken Sutcliffe and Julian Wilson (BBC TV, England),
in Radio with presenters in the caliber of John Laws and Alan Jones
and writing regular articles for Silks magazine and The Wentworth
Courier, it is no wonder Angela is one of Australia's top publicists!
Highlights of Angela's career include the invitations from the BBC to compere the Fashion Coverage at Royal Ascot (one of the Worlds most prestigious race meetings and
unquestionably the most glamorous) in England with leading Television Commentator, Julian Wilson.
The coverage was broadcast Internationally from Europe
to America and Hong Kong. Angela also did special coverage for Australia's
'Today Show' and '11am'. During this time, Angela was also
asked to help organise the Ascot Eve Ball at which Angela solely
orgainsed the first ever 'Nightlife Fashions On The Field'.
The Queen is the patron of the Animal Health Trust, which the ball
endorses, and much sponsorship was gained on the evening.
Through Angela's involvement with 'Fashions On The Field'
over the last 14 years, she has been acclaimed by many as bringing
the glamour back to Australian race courses. Her first 'Fashions
On The Field' competition was held in 1983 and since then this race
day feature has become a national racing institution.
